FAST - After Violent Crime

"Everyone in a community can do something"

FAST (First Aid Stress and Trauma) Response Guide for Communities Affected by Violent Crime

Supporting Communities in Crisis

Violent crime leaves lasting effects on individuals, families, and entire communities. Beyond physical harm, survivors, witnesses, and responders often experience psychological distress, which, if left unaddressed, can lead to long-term trauma. To support immediate and sustained recovery, we have developed the FAST (First Aid Stress and Trauma) Response Guide, an evidence-based framework designed to:

Provide immediate psychological first aid to victims and witnesses.
Strengthen community resilience through trauma-informed interventions.
Support frontline responders with best-practice strategies.
Integrate trauma competency into public health, education, and law enforcement.

This guide is grounded in scientific research and best practices from leading experts in trauma response, psychology, and community healing. It includes practical tools, policy recommendations, and training resources to help communities navigate the aftermath of violent crime.
